Our Story
Cuddon Freeze Dry is a division of Cuddon Limited, which began as a small family engineering operation in Blenheim, New Zealand. While the company has grown in size and ambition since incorporation in 1938, eighty years on it still retains family ownership, and the same commitment to excellence and client service. Cuddon Freeze Dry was established in 1963 and, over 60 years on, continues to lead from the front.
Our four product ranges, and custom-built freeze dryers, are all designed, fabricated and tested from our purpose-built facilities in New Zealand.
Together, our highly skilled work force includes technical designers, steelworkers, water engineers, refrigeration engineers and fitters, and the freeze dry team who optimise the performance of each freeze dryer and provide service support.
Our commitment to the manufacturing process takes in the whole manufacturing lifecycle from design, build, delivery, installation, commission to training, warranty and after sales service & support, providing a complete solution.
In-house Manufacturing
While other companies were outsourcing their manufacturing offshore, Cuddon Freeze Dry made the decision to continue designing and manufacturing its freeze dryers from its New Zealand base. This commitment has ensured excellence in the local workforce, retained quality throughout the design and build lifecycle, and supported ongoing innovation.
Cuddon manufactures under ISO 9001 certification—a mark of quality management that many competitors do not hold—allowing for strict control over workmanship and production standards. In-house manufacturing also means we can stand firmly behind the durability of our products, with Cuddon freeze dryers still in reliable operation after nearly 40 years in the field.
Manufacturing in New Zealand has also provided commercial resilience, enabling Cuddon Freeze Dry to continue delivering throughout global disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic—making us the only freeze dry manufacturer to do so.
